Caroline Baumann
Baumann is acting director of the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. As acting director, Baumann works closely with Diller Scofidio + Renfro, designers of the new gallery and visitor experience; Local Projects, participatory media designer; and Pentagram, identity design, for the reopening of the museum campus in 2014. She is leading the transformation and creation of immersive museum spaces and memorable visitor experiences to realize the ambition of explaining design. The expansion will result in 60 percent more gallery space, increased public access to the museum’s permanent collection, a new National Design Library, renovated museum facilities, and a whole new visitor experience.
