Burton Silverman’s art grows out of his responses to the world around him in his native New York City. His illustration career began with a commission to create a series of instructional drawings for Sports Illustrated in 1961. Since then his masterful images have appeared in children’s books, advertisements, and magazines for such prominent clients as TimeLifeThe New Yorker, Exxon, CBS, Heinz, and IBM. A distinguished easel painter, Silverman has received many professional honors for his work, which has been exhibited at museums and galleries throughout the world. His portraits focus on the interior worlds of his subjects and are featured on 12 United States postage stamps.
